Through tired brown eyes, the courtyard was seen as a haven - a place of refuge to contemplate, a wide area of fresh air and most of all, silence. It was an expansive space where students flocked to daily, but it was big enough so that apart from the babbling gossips, there were always separated areas where other, much quieter students could catch a break. Though at this time of night, a young Slytherin thought the courtyard to be empty. He wasn't aware of the time, but it was dark. So very dark. And cold, too. He was clad in robe upon robe, three layers to keep warm. Of course, there was probably a simple charm to keep him warmed up without dragging extra weight, but Dax Watson wasn't prepared to search his memory for it. He wasn't really prepared to do anything.
Now, any onlooker watching the young lad would think of him as very strange, up at all hours wandering down to the courtyard alone. Not many realised that Dax had a problem. It was common amongst people around his age or older - insomnia. And there was nothing that he felt like doing about it. He made frequent night time visits to the courtyard and other grounds at Hogwarts, sometimes getting caught, but he was always very careful not to. It helped him get thoughts out of his head and clear mind. He used to go further, the furthest possible place, and shout. He shouted till his mind was numb, and no one ever heard him. No one would suspect it was him screaming, anyway. The forest itself had creatures hiding in it's depths that were louder than he. But he soon grew out of it, and realised that shouting wasn't the best solution. He preferred to think it out - take in his surroundings and think about them - lyrics, poetry, music, anything, really. Whether they were frightening or beautiful.
And at in the night, the courtyard was both. Dax collapsed on the nearest bench and stared up into the sky, trying to count all of the stars. His vision was blurry, but his mind was now buzzing. Numbers, numbers, Van Gogh, colours, numbers, numbers. Trying not to blink. Eyes dry. Lonely. Lonely. He felt the word stab at him, but there were too many stars in the sky to pick which one to wish on.

The redhead shook uneasily, hands clasping the bag that contained some unnamed boys boxers. With a look over her shoulders back at the castle she wondered just what the hell she was doing here. What started as a little game between the girls, resulted in an all out war. And her being Rose, could never deny a challenge thrown her way it showed weakness and she was beyond weak. But she wasn't stupid--- or atleast she used to think she wasnt stupid, now... not so much. Gulping nervously she finally managed to continue her steps. There were so many things that could go wrong right about now and each one of these were racing through her mind. Detention... Being labeled as a rebel... getting attacked by a werewolf or some other unknown creature... getting detention.... she whimpered in her head. The cold was nothing in comparison with the coldness that may linger in her heart if caught.
C'mon Rose quit being a wimp, thats Hugo's job right! If she expected greatness she needed to act it. Rose puffed out her chest and lifted her head, striding through the lawns. There was nothing to be scared about. Sure the lights were out in the rest of the world and it was just a teensey bit dark but there were no real threats.. Rose snapped her head in the direction of the forest, her steps slowing...... just my imagination she attempted to reconcile with herself but she KNEW that was a sound.. something was in there. Rose quickly scurried into the courtyard carefully. She swiped her brow from the panic she had worked up earlier and decided to take a breather before continuing with her mission. She plopped down onto the bench, it was too dark for her to notice the figure already laying there. But seconds after she had plopped down she could feel something odd.. for starters it was squishy and not balanced out..
Rose hopped up in a panic "YIIIEEEEE" she screeched as she did, dropping the bag and fumbling for her wand frantically. she was doomed... DOOOMED!!!!

For Dax, things were starting to get trippy. The stars that he was gazing at seemed to spin around into intricate patterns until the whole sky was just a blur to him. His mouth gaped open into a dazed smile without him noticing. The mature Slytherin boy loved it when reality began to bend like that. Hallucinations were rare for him, but recently, as his nights without sleep grew longer, they had been occurring more regularly. Not every night, of course - about once a fortnight. And they didn't last long. Long enough for him to travel to different spots around Hogwarts, however, and finding himself in the morning in odd spots here and there. The good thing about them was that he fell asleep while having them - at some point they stopped being figments of his mind and slowly slipped into a dream as he slept.
He blinked and the swirl of navy and stars disappeared, lingering only in his memory as his vision was repaired. Though his senses were still vaguely numb, he thought he could hear something. The boy tilted his head to the side, trying to figure out if he had imagined it or not, when he heard it again. He quickly realised that he was not alone. Of course, it could have been a stray animal or something, but it could just as easily have been an enemy or a professor. He was less worried about the professor idea, really. It's not like his trips to the courtyard and other spots had gone unnoticed on some other, more clumsy occasions. Though he hadn't told them of his condition he had guessed that some of the wiser ones had figured it out on their own. In that, when he was caught he usually got away with just a slap on the wrist, no detentions or trips to the dark forest, or worse - house point deduction.
But as his senses reawakened he realised that the treading was too lightly to be a teacher, too... graceful. Most likely a girl. But they were coming towards him. Maybe it was a hallucination coming to greet him. The thought lifted some of the uneasiness off of his shoulders. But then, suddenly, pressure applied to his thighs. The 'hallucination' had just sat on him.
He heard her squeal - and if it hadn't been a her he would have been definitely worried for a boy to have squealed in such a high pitch. He got up defensively, looking down at the girl who was squandering for her bag which she had dropped in shock. "What the -"
[/color] He refrained from swearing - just. He fumbled for his wand, checking all of his robe pockets. Finally he found it, his trusty piece of wood. He whispered Lumos quickly, and a bead of light lit up the girl's face. He stared down at her quizzically, trying to figure out why she had sat on him and why she was wandering the courtyard at such an hour. Rose's eyes began to well with tears as fear struck over her. Finding her wand was proving more difficult than it sounded, and her fear greatly increased with that gruffed tone that resounded in surprise. He was aware of her dammit!!! Rose had just managed to pull out her wand prepared to hex the werewolf bastard to oblivion when the bright light blinded her temporarily. She flinched attempting to shield her eyes from the brightness. But it was too late, Temporarily blinded by the light her heart rate raced, and her hands began to move in full swing, thrashing her wand about in a wild manner. Her mind was too frazzled to think of a spell and her arms were moving on their own in some sort of attempt at defending herself.
She felt her wand colliding with something but she wasn't sure what. "DONT THINK IM GONNA LAY DOWN WITHOUT A FIGHT YOU PERVERTED EVIL DEMON MONSTER" she shouted through her efforts, though inside she was whimpering and wondering why she wasn't running by now.. get out of here dumbass he'll destroyyyy you she whinned in her head but her feet wouldn't move and her hands wouldnt stop moving.
