Professor Gareth entered the Great Hall with swift stride. He wore a black vest and a deep purple shirt and black pants to match. He had a black silk cape that hung over his right shoulder that was embroidered with an intricate purple design on the bottom and he passed by the Ravenclaw table with a nod to his students. It was obvious to most that he favored his students above all others. It was also obvious that he despised most hufflepuff students. Gareth may have been a Ravenclaw due to his intelligence and magical aptitude but he had the heart of a slytherin. And he showed just as much venom as they would toward anyone other then his own house. Those who didn't know him found him intimidating. His co-workers found him cold, but he just figured he was rational. He had not the time to show any kind of compassion or kindness. His job was to shape the minds of young wizards and witches and that is exactly what he was going to do. He expected nothing but the best from his students and in his 7 years of teaching at Hogwarts so far the best is what he got. He would not pass those who would not try. Since all you really had to do was try and apply yourself Defense against the Dark arts was not a difficult class by any means unless you were just an obvious failure at magic completely.
Gareth walked up the small bit of steps to the staff table and took his seat, his cold black eyes sweeping the great hall as he did so. He crossed his legs and folded his hands, he presented a very intimidating picture for many, especially the first years. He glanced around and noticed that only a few of co-workers were here at the moment. He wasnt suprised. He was always early. Never late. Even being on time wasnt enough.
